Larger Bitcoin purchases

Bitcoin OTC trading: how larger purchases work.

Bitcoin OTC trading means arranging a purchase with a counterparty or desk instead of placing your own order on a public exchange. Compare quotes, minimums, fees and settlement, then decide whether an OTC desk or our guided wire service fits your purchase.

What is Bitcoin OTC trading?

Over-the-counter, or OTC, describes a purchase arranged with a counterparty or desk rather than an order you place directly on a public exchange order book. The provider may still use exchanges or other liquidity sources behind the scenes. OTC does not mean a purchase is off the Bitcoin network, exempt from verification or protected from a price decline.

For a larger purchase, the useful difference is how the amount, quote, payment and delivery are coordinated. Compare the actual offer, including all costs and the Bitcoin you will receive. A quoted purchase is not automatically cheaper or free of price impact.

OTC quote or exchange order: what changes?

  • How you agree on price: an OTC desk may provide a quote for a specific amount with an expiry. On an exchange, a market order can fill at several prices; a limit order controls your limit price but may not fill.
  • What you compare: request the total dollars required and net BTC delivered. Ask whether the spread, trading fee, withdrawal and network costs are included.
  • When you receive Bitcoin: confirm funding, trade approval and settlement separately. An accepted quote does not always mean the Bitcoin is already in your wallet.

These are comparison questions, not universal terms. For example, Kraken’s OTC service describes request-for-quote and trade-desk options with its own eligibility and settlement conditions. Check each provider’s current terms.

Our guided Bitcoin wire purchase service accepts all wire amounts, with no minimum or maximum. Bank limits, eligibility and required review still apply. The dollar amounts in our guides are planning examples. For our wire service, you approve the final price after funds arrive, before we execute the purchase. Sending a wire does not lock the Bitcoin price.

Ready to prepare a wire purchase? Create your account to start a request or sign in. Creating an account does not send money.

Choose an OTC desk or a guided wire service.

A larger Bitcoin purchase does not automatically require an OTC desk. Start with the amount you want to spend, the help you need and where the Bitcoin should end up.

  • A self-directed app or exchange: you fund an account, place your purchase and arrange any wallet withdrawal. Check the complete trading cost and withdrawal conditions.
  • An OTC service such as Strike Private: a relationship manager can arrange a purchase with custom pricing. Ask for your quote, funding requirements and settlement terms. Strike’s standard app trading fees are not a substitute for a Private quote.
  • Our guided wire service: we help you prepare a request and understand verified bank instructions. After funds arrive and required review is complete, you approve the final price before we purchase and send Bitcoin to your selected verified wallet.

Our wire service supports eligible U.S. customers except in Georgia, Washington and New York. We have no minimum or maximum wire amount, but bank limits and required review apply. Tell us your intended amount, originating bank and wallet before funding.

For $50,000, $100,000 or another amount, request the same information from each provider: total cash required, net BTC delivered, quote expiry, when price becomes binding and the procedure if you decline after funding. A smaller advertised fee does not describe every cost, and personal support alone does not make two offers equivalent.

See the Strike app, Strike Private and Crypto Dispensers comparison or compare eight Bitcoin wire providers. Strike Private details were checked against Strike’s own service page on October 16, 2026. Confirm the terms of your actual offer before proceeding.

Prepare the purchase before scheduling the wire.

  • Choose a total dollar budget or a target amount of BTC delivered. Those are different goals.
  • Confirm your bank account is eligible for this request, including any joint or business-account questions.
  • Ask your bank about outgoing-wire limits, the cutoff time and its separate charge.
  • Prepare identity and source-of-funds information through the secure process shown in your account.
  • Verify the customer-owned Bitcoin wallet and supported network.
  • Keep time available for review questions and final-price approval.

Use our document preparation guide. Do not split a purchase to avoid required review or bank controls. Ask the bank and our team how to handle your intended amount.

Follow the purchase in six separate steps.

  1. Request

Tell us the intended amount, originating bank and wallet destination.

  2. Review

Complete the identity, funding and other checks requested in your account.

  3. Wire

Wait for verified instructions for this request, then arrange the payment with your bank.

  4. Funds received

We match the incoming funds and complete the applicable review.

  5. Approve the price

Review the final quote and Bitcoin amount before you approve the purchase.

  6. Confirm delivery

Keep the purchase confirmation and check the Bitcoin transaction to your wallet.

Sending a wire does not lock the Bitcoin price. Read when the price is confirmed. Your bank receipt, purchase confirmation and Bitcoin transaction record each confirm a different step.

Read a quote from total cost to Bitcoin delivered.

The example below demonstrates the arithmetic. It is not a live quote, actual receipt or offer to buy Bitcoin at the sample price.

Illustrative quote worksheet

Amount wired
$100,000.00
Service fee deducted at 5%
$5,000.00
Funds available before other costs
$95,000.00
Hypothetical purchase price
$100,000 per BTC
BTC before other deductions
0.95000000 BTC

Any additional processing or delivery deduction changes the result. Your bank may charge separately. The final approved quote determines the purchase and delivery amounts.

Our standard starting wire fee is 8% below $100,000 and 5% at $100,000 or more, applied to the full wire amount. A $50,000 wire has a $4,000 service fee, leaving $46,000 before other costs. Compare $50,000 and $100,000 planning examples or use the quote comparison calculator. For a record you can keep, open the fillable cost-comparison worksheet (PDF, new tab). Record each offer’s date and expiry, then compare the total paid with the final BTC delivered.

The wire examples and estimates use our standard starting rates, without individual rate adjustments. As your transaction volume with us grows, we can review your wire service rate and may be able to lower it. We review rates individually, with no fixed discount schedule or guaranteed reduction. Confirm your rate with our team before wiring.

To see how the stages work in practice, read our documented $5,000 wire purchase example. It separates funds received from Bitcoin sent, with personal details removed. That smaller purchase illustrates the process; it is not evidence of a typical timeline or execution terms for a larger order.

Compare two offers with the same cash budget.

Ask each provider for the net BTC delivered to the same eligible wallet, with all costs included. A quoted Bitcoin price and an advertised service fee do not, on their own, tell you which offer delivers more Bitcoin.

Invented comparison for explanation only. These offers do not represent Crypto Dispensers or any other provider, a live price or available terms. Assume the same $100,000 total cash outlay, all charges included and no separate costs.

Illustrative offer A

Total cash paid: $100,000.00
Net Bitcoin delivered: 0.94000000 BTC
Effective total cost: $106,382.98 per BTC

Illustrative offer B

Total cash paid: $100,000.00
Net Bitcoin delivered: 0.93000000 BTC
Effective total cost: $107,526.88 per BTC

At the same total cash outlay, offer A delivers 0.01000000 BTC more. Effective cost per BTC is total dollars paid divided by net BTC delivered. A lower effective cost does not make the offers equivalent if custody, timing, price approval or eligibility differ.

For actual offers, use the two-quote comparison calculator. Keep quote timestamps and expiry conditions with your figures. Do not compare a quote from one time with a later market price as if both were available together.

Decide where the purchase should finish.

Bitcoin credited to an account

Some services first credit a hosted balance. A separate withdrawal may have costs, limits or holds. Include that step when comparing offers.

Bitcoin delivered to your wallet

Confirm the eligible wallet address before funding. With a wallet you control, you are responsible for protecting its keys and recovery backup.

Our wire process includes delivery to your confirmed eligible wallet after the required review and your price approval. Compare OTC and exchange purchase steps without assuming every provider handles custody the same way.

Confirm what the provider means by settlement.

Before funding, have the provider explain which event its settlement estimate describes. An account credit, completed trade and transfer to your own Bitcoin wallet can happen at different times.

  • Price agreement: what action makes the quote binding, and what happens if it expires?
  • Funding and review: must the dollars arrive and pass review before the purchase can proceed?
  • Wallet delivery: who sends the Bitcoin, which network is supported and what net amount should reach your address?
  • Evidence and support: which purchase receipt and transaction ID will be available, and whom should you contact for each pending step?

After delivery is initiated, the Bitcoin transaction explainer shows how to check the receiving output and confirmations. For our service’s full sequence, review the Bitcoin wire-transfer buying page before sending money.

Plan around review, banking and delivery.

Crypto Dispensers wire transactions usually process within 1–2 days; compliance reviews can cause delays. This is an estimate, not a completion deadline. A bank cutoff, missing information, price approval or Bitcoin network conditions can affect the sequence.

Tell our team about any deadline before sending money. An early bank wire does not establish that every later step will finish that day. Use the wire timing guide to identify the next milestone.

Verify the instructions and the people involved.

Start from our official site or your account. If bank details change, independently confirm them with our team before paying. Read the wire instruction field guide and check the complete wallet address.

Do not send Bitcoin to a wallet controlled by an investment coach, impersonator or stranger claiming it will protect your money. Never share recovery phrases, private keys or one-time codes. If you suspect a mistaken or fraudulent wire, contact your bank immediately. A recall or recovery is not guaranteed.

Questions before a larger purchase.

Is OTC only for institutions?

No. A quoted or guided purchase can be used by individuals where the provider supports it. Confirm your own eligibility; do not assume business or institutional terms apply to a personal request.

Does OTC guarantee a better price?

No. Compare current total cost and net BTC delivered for the same outcome. A different provider or payment method may be a better fit.

Can a large OTC Bitcoin purchase avoid moving the price?

No method guarantees zero market impact. An OTC provider may use exchanges or other liquidity sources, and a quote can include costs that differ from a chart price. Compare the total dollars required, net BTC delivered and the terms that become binding when you approve.

A limit order can control the trading-price boundary but may not fill completely. A quoted purchase follows the provider’s acceptance conditions. See our large-purchase price-impact explanation and its illustrated order book before choosing how to buy.

Should I use Strike Private or a guided Bitcoin wire service?

Compare the offers for your amount and wallet destination. Strike Private provides a relationship manager and custom pricing. Our wire service provides help with the request and bank instructions, followed by final-price approval after funds arrive and required review is complete. Compare total dollars, net BTC, eligibility and settlement, using the detailed Strike comparison.

What is the minimum Bitcoin OTC trade?

There is no single minimum across OTC providers. Each desk sets its own trade size, account and location requirements. Crypto Dispensers has no minimum or maximum wire purchase amount; bank limits, eligibility and required review still apply. A $50,000 or $100,000 guide is a planning example, not an entry requirement.

Does a bank wire lock the Bitcoin price?

No. For our wire service, you approve the final Bitcoin price after your funds arrive. Review the BTC amount, fees and destination before approval. Other providers may use different funding or quote-expiry rules; ask when your price becomes binding.

How can I verify that the Bitcoin reached my wallet?

Match the transaction’s receiving output with the complete wallet address and net BTC amount in your approved purchase. Check confirmations under your receiving wallet’s requirements. A bank receipt or screenshot alone does not establish Bitcoin delivery. Use our transaction lookup guide when a Bitcoin transaction ID is available.

Can I cancel after sending the wire?

Ask about cancellation, funds-return procedures, charges and timing before funding. Do not assume you can reverse a wire or undo a completed Bitcoin transfer.
