Actual close finished below the base range
How the May 2026 Crypto Prediction Compared With the Result
The May forecast identified the right decision level and the importance of ETF flows, but its base case was too optimistic.
The bear case was closest to the actual outcome.
The original prediction used $80,000 as the key decision level. Bitcoin briefly traded above that level but failed to hold it, then closed near $71,314. ETF flows, correctly identified as the main confirmation signal, reversed sharply negative.

Closest to the $71.3K close
What the prediction got right and wrong.
| Forecast | Actual result | Assessment |
|---|---|---|
| $80K decision level | Bitcoin tested above $80K but failed to hold | Correct signal |
| $74K to $88K base range | Close near $71.3K | Too optimistic |
| $88K to $96K bull case | Monthly high near $82.8K | Did not occur |
| $70K to $72K bear case | Close near $71.3K | Closest scenario |
| ETF flows as key driver | About $2.43B in outflows | Correct |
Overall assessment: the framework identified the correct level and catalyst, but assigned too much weight to continued upside.
Why the forecast missed the base case.
The prediction assumed that supportive ETF demand could sustain a constructive range. Instead, flows reversed and removed a major source of institutional buying.
Bitcoin reached the decision zone, but price acceptance above $80,000 never developed. That should have shifted the forecast more quickly toward the downside scenario.
Future predictions should distinguish between touching a level and holding it. A brief move above resistance is not the same as a confirmed breakout.
Directionally useful, but too bullish.
The forecast was useful because it centered the analysis on $80,000 and ETF demand. The final range expectation was too high. The bear case described the closing area more accurately than the stated base case.
