Find the transfer stage

Why Was My Bitcoin Wire Transfer Rejected or Delayed?

Start with the status your bank and purchase provider actually show. A rejected wire, a transfer still in transit and a purchase awaiting review need different next steps.

First, find out which step is waiting.

A bank’s “sent” message is not confirmation that Bitcoin has been purchased or delivered. Check whether the USD wire left your bank, whether the purchase provider received and matched it, and whether the purchase or Bitcoin delivery is still pending.

01

Not sent or rejected

Start with your bank. Ask for the exact status, reason and whether any money left the account.

02

Sent, receipt unconfirmed

Share the bank reference with the purchase provider through official support. Ask the sending bank about a trace if needed.

03

Funds received, purchase pending

Check for a document request, price approval or another purchase step. Ask what is outstanding.

04

Bitcoin already broadcast

Use the Bitcoin transaction ID to check the destination and confirmations on the correct network.

For the normal sequence, see our Bitcoin wire transfer process.

If the bank rejected or did not send the wire

Ask the bank to explain the status before trying again. Possible issues to clarify include a sending limit, insufficient available funds after bank fees, recipient information, the transfer method selected or a bank security review. Your bank must tell you what applies to your particular request.

  • Confirm whether the wire was never sent, is pending review or was sent and later returned.
  • Compare the beneficiary, bank, account details and reference against the instructions for your current purchase.
  • Check that you selected the instructed wire method. Do not assume ACH details accept wires.
  • Ask whether your account’s sending limit or a bank approval is involved.
  • Confirm the next step with your bank and our team before resubmitting.

Do not change the account owner, misdescribe the payment or split transfers to bypass a restriction. Read our wire limits guide if the amount is the issue.

If the bank says sent but receipt is unconfirmed

Keep the bank receipt and ask the purchase provider to check the payment against your request. The sending bank can explain its investigation or trace process. The OCC’s guidance for an unreceived wire directs the sender to notify the bank or transfer provider used to send it.

Amount and currency
Match the intended USD wire amount.
Date and status
Distinguish a scheduled request from a completed bank action.
Transfer reference
Use the bank’s reference when asking it to investigate.
Recipient and purchase reference
Compare with the instructions for your current request.

This is an educational field guide, not an actual receipt or proof that a payment was received.

Send sensitive records only through the verified channel requested by support. Do not post bank details publicly. A missing update is not a reason to send a second payment.

If funding arrived but Bitcoin has not been sent

Ask which purchase step is outstanding. The request may still need account review, clarification about funding, your approval of the final quote or delivery processing. Answer the specific question shown in your account and keep the purchase reference with your reply.

For our wire service, you approve the final price after funds arrive. Initiating the bank transfer does not lock the Bitcoin price. Check the actual quote and its conditions before approval.

Our document guide explains how to prepare requested information. Our timing guide separates banking time from review, purchase and wallet delivery.

Give support the facts needed to locate the request.

A useful status question includes the purchase reference, intended amount, sending date, bank status and the last update you received. Ask a specific question: “Has the wire been received and matched?” or “What is outstanding before the Bitcoin can be sent?”

If the bank has returned the wire, ask where the funds are now, whether any fee was deducted and what reference identifies the return. A cancellation or recall request does not guarantee that funds can be recovered or that a fee will be refunded.

If instructions unexpectedly change or someone pressures you to send more to unlock funds, stop and independently contact your bank and official support. Use our scam-prevention guidance. Never send login codes or a wallet recovery phrase to someone offering to resolve a delay.

Questions about wire delays

Should I send another wire if the first one is missing?

Do not send a duplicate simply because the status is unclear. First ask the bank and purchase provider to locate the existing transfer and confirm the next step.

Does a bank receipt prove my Bitcoin was sent?

No. It describes the bank transfer. Bitcoin delivery has a separate transaction ID once broadcast.

Can I search a wire reference on a Bitcoin explorer?

No. Use the bank reference with the bank or purchase provider. Use a Bitcoin transaction ID for the on-chain delivery.

Is a Friday wire guaranteed to arrive on Monday?

No. Cutoffs, holidays, bank processing and reviews can affect the timing. Confirm the status with your bank rather than treating a calendar example as a promise.
