GREEN DOT @ THE REGISTER

Generate a store barcode
right at the register

Crypto Dispensers uses Green Dot @ the Register to let you add cash at participating retail locations. Generate a secure, scannable barcode on your phone and show it to the cashier, no card required, no forms to fill out, and no phone calls needed.

Your barcode expires one hour after generation. If it expires before checkout, you can instantly create a new one.

Secure, time-limited deposit barcode

How the store barcode works

The store barcode is the bridge between physical cash and your Crypto Dispensers account. It represents a secure retail payment flow powered by Green Dot @ the Register, connecting an in-store checkout transaction to your online balance.

Generated in your account

You choose an amount and Crypto Dispensers generates a unique, time-limited barcode tied to your account and that specific deposit. This creates a pending in-store payment reference within the Green Dot retail system.

Scanned at the register

You show the barcode to the cashier, who scans it at the register using Green Dot @ the Register. Once the barcode is accepted, you hand over cash and the transaction is processed through the store’s existing checkout system.

Deposit is accepted

After the store confirms the transaction, your cash deposit is recorded and a receipt is provided. The deposit then moves through the Crypto Dispensers system, making funds available according to standard processing and account limits.

TIP for mobile users:

Wait until you are at the retail location to generate your barcode on your phone. Remember, your barcode will expire one hour after you generate it, but you can always create a new one on your mobile phone if it expires.

Wallet QR code vs store barcode: what’s the difference?

These two codes may look similar, but they serve very different purposes. One tells the Bitcoin network where to send funds. The other is what allows you to add cash at a retail register.

Your wallet QR code
  • Comes from your Bitcoin wallet app
  • Tells the network where Bitcoin should be sent
  • Is used to send or receive Bitcoin
  • Does not accept cash or payments
  • Is not used at a retail checkout
Crypto Dispensers store barcode
  • Generated inside your Crypto Dispensers account
  • Scanned by the cashier at the register
  • Used with Green Dot @ the Register
  • Allows you to add cash through a retail checkout
  • Is only used to fund your account balance
The simple way to remember

The wallet QR code is for receiving Bitcoin. The Crypto Dispensers store barcode is for paying cash at the register using Green Dot @ the Register. They look similar but they are never interchangeable.

What to say to the cashier

Checkout works best when you lead with the correct phrase. Say the line below — then wait.

Say this

“I’d like to add cash using Green Dot @ the Register.”

If they ask for more detail

“I have a barcode for a cash reload.”

If they ask what to scan

“It should scan as a Green Dot reload.”

Do not say
  • “I’m buying Bitcoin.”
  • “This is crypto.”
  • “This is a gift card.”
  • “This is a Crypto Dispensers barcode.”

The cashier does not need to know anything about crypto. This is a standard retail reload flow.

Is this a gift card? No. Here’s what it actually is.

Because you pay with cash at a store, some people assume this is a gift card or voucher. It is not. A gift card is a stored-value product. The Crypto Dispensers store barcode is a payment reference used with Green Dot @ the Register to connect a retail checkout transaction to your account.

Gift card / voucher
  • Preloaded with a fixed stored value
  • Value lives on the card or code itself
  • Can often be transferred or resold
  • Acts like a product you purchase
  • Not connected to your Crypto Dispensers account
Store barcode (Crypto Dispensers)
  • Not preloaded with any value
  • Represents a pending payment reference
  • Used with Green Dot @ the Register
  • Only works with your Crypto Dispensers account
  • Used once to complete a cash checkout
  • Funds your account balance not a card or code
The practical takeaway

A gift card is a product with stored value. The Crypto Dispensers store barcode is not a product at all. It is a one-time payment instruction used at the register with Green Dot to move cash into your account balance. The barcode expires after use. Your balance is what remains.
