01

Start with the purchase you want to make.

If you already use Robinhood, first check the crypto order setting and whether your account can send Bitcoin to the wallet you intend to use. If you use Coinbase, distinguish the simple purchase screen from Coinbase Advanced. The app name alone does not tell you the price or when you can withdraw.

For a one-time purchase, collect a quote from each service using the same dollar budget. For active trading, compare the actual order types and fee tier available to your account. For self-custody, check the receiving network and available-to-send amount before funding.

The settings that change the comparison.

Coinbase and Robinhood: checks before funding
QuestionCoinbaseRobinhood
Which purchase mode?Simple purchase or Advanced order bookMarket maker or exchange routing
How is cost shown?Simple buys include a spread and a previewed fee; Advanced has separate trading feesMarket maker orders have no commission, but pricing includes a spread; exchange routing has fees
Can I send to my wallet?Check available balance, transfer restrictions and networkCheck transfer eligibility, available amount and destination support
What should I compare?Total dollars paid and BTC deliveredThe same dollars, destination and approximate quote time

On a small screen, swipe the table to see every column.

Coinbase states that Advanced does not add its simple-buy spread because orders interact with the order book. That does not mean the market has no bid/ask difference. Robinhood’s routing documentation also cautions that either setting can have the better complete price. Coinbase pricing and fee disclosures; Robinhood: crypto order routing.

A repeatable way to compare your own quotes.

  1. Write down the product and order setting, not just the provider name.
  2. Enter the same total spending budget, including funding charges.
  3. Record the BTC amount at the receiving destination. If the screen shows only an account balance, record the separate send charge too.
  4. Keep the time and quote deadline. A price change between screenshots can affect the result.
  5. Choose based on complete cost and the service you need. Do not submit an unwanted order to collect a comparison.

Illustration: if two complete quotes both cost $1,000 and deliver 0.00990 BTC and 0.00985 BTC, the first delivers 5,000 more sats. A smaller displayed percentage does not override that result. These are invented arithmetic inputs, not provider quotes.

Use our two-quote calculator to compare your figures.

04

Plan the withdrawal before the purchase.

A platform can let you trade while recently deposited funds remain unavailable to send. Coinbase explains this distinction in its Coinbase: available balance. Robinhood has its own verification and transfer conditions. Check the current account screen instead of borrowing another customer’s limit or hold period.

For an on-chain transfer, obtain a Bitcoin receiving address from the wallet you control, verify the complete address and review the final send amount. Save the TXID after broadcast. Our Robinhood hardware-wallet checklist covers destination checks; the transaction lookup helps interpret the public record.

05

Choose the workflow you can actually use.

  • Occasional buyer: compare the final quote and the work needed to fund the account.
  • Active trader: compare available order controls and your current fee tier. A resting limit order may not fill.
  • Wallet owner: prioritize compatible transfers and verified release conditions alongside price.
  • Buyer who wants assistance: ask what support covers and compare that service’s complete cost with the self-service choices.

Want help arranging the purchase?

If choosing an order setting and arranging a later withdrawal feels like more work than you want to manage, you can ask our team about a guided wire purchase. We help you prepare the request and current bank instructions. You approve the final quote, and we arrange Bitcoin delivery to your confirmed wallet.

Our wire service fee is 8% below $100,000 or 5% at $100,000 or more, applied to the whole wire amount. Your bank’s charge is separate, and other quoted costs may apply. These published wire fees are higher than the calculated app purchase fees in our fee study. If you want a team to help coordinate your purchase, talk with us about your amount and receiving wallet.

Your final price is confirmed after funds arrive, and required checks still apply. You can read one documented purchase to see the steps before speaking with us.
