Bitcoin payment and delivery guide

Why Can I Buy Bitcoin but Not Withdraw It Yet?

A completed purchase and an available withdrawal balance can be different. Learn how to identify a funding hold, an account restriction or a Bitcoin transaction that is already on the network.

A purchase balance does not always mean Bitcoin can be sent.

Some platforms let you buy Bitcoin before the money used to fund the purchase is available for withdrawal. They may show BTC in your account while restricting external transfers. A separate account review or security restriction can also affect sending.

Read the exact status in your account: “available to trade,” “available to send” and “pending” can describe different balances. Check whether you have actually requested an external withdrawal. If no Bitcoin transaction has been broadcast, waiting for blockchain confirmations will not clear a funding hold.

A purchase and a withdrawal can have separate steps

01

Funding

A bank payment or deposit may still be subject to a platform’s hold.

02

Purchase

The platform records the Bitcoin you bought in your account.

03

Withdrawal permission

The platform checks available balance, account eligibility and the withdrawal request.

04

Network transfer

A broadcast transaction can then receive Bitcoin confirmations.

Identify the kind of delay before trying to solve it.

What Coinbase and River say about funding holds.

We reviewed these official help pages on October 14, 2026. Product terms and account restrictions can change, so open the current notice for your own purchase.

Coinbase

Coinbase explains that cash on hold can be used for some purchases or trades while sending or cashing out remains restricted. Its help page directs customers to their account for availability details and says support cannot shorten the hold. Other account restrictions may still apply.

Read Coinbase’s available-balance guidance

River

River explains that linked-bank deposits can have a holding period while buying and selling remain available. Its help page distinguishes those holds from wire funding. Check the current account notice for your available sending balance.

Read River’s sending and withdrawal guidance

These examples explain different funding and withdrawal states. They do not establish the status of your account, guarantee availability or mean that all providers use the same policy. Crypto Dispensers also offers Bitcoin purchase services.

Choose the next step shown by your account.

Read the hold details.

Check the funding payment, affected amount and date shown by the provider. If the notice is unclear, ask support to explain that specific hold. Do not assume another deposit will release the first one.

How a Crypto Dispensers wire purchase reaches your wallet.

Our wire purchase starts with your verified request and the bank instructions approved for it. After the funds arrive and required review is complete, you approve the final Bitcoin price. We then complete the purchase and send Bitcoin to the supported wallet address you provide.

The bank wire, our review, your price approval and Bitcoin delivery are separate steps. Wire funding does not promise immediate approval or eliminate review. Typical wire purchases take 1–2 days, subject to bank timing, verification and other checks; individual transactions can take longer.

See our wire purchase service for the current costs and steps. The service fee is 8% for wires below $100,000 and 5% for wires of $100,000 or more, applied to the full wire amount. Review other applicable charges and your final BTC quantity before approving.

If your question is whether the dollars arrived, use the bank-wire tracing guide. If your question is where Bitcoin will be sent, read our wallet-delivery guide.

Check withdrawal conditions before your next purchase.

  • Does the payment method have a funding hold?
  • Can you buy immediately but send only after a later date?
  • What verification and withdrawal limits apply to your account?
  • Does the displayed purchase total include delivery or withdrawal charges?
  • Will the purchase send Bitcoin to your wallet, or credit an account that needs a later withdrawal?
  • What asset and network does the receiving wallet support?

Write down the answers before choosing a payment method. If you plan to receive into a hardware wallet, follow our Ledger and Trezor receiving guide and verify the complete address on the device where supported.

Do not pay someone to “unlock” your Bitcoin.

A person who contacts you unexpectedly and asks for a separate crypto payment, a wallet recovery phrase or remote access to release your balance is a reason to stop. Open the provider’s official app or website yourself and verify the message through its published support channel.

Your bank can answer questions about a bank payment. Your purchase provider can explain an account restriction. Your receiving service can explain its deposit-credit policy. A third-party “recovery agent” does not gain authority over these systems because it claims to have a connection.

If the transfer is already on the Bitcoin network, compare its status with the wallet-delivery stages before making another payment.

Questions about buying, sending and waiting.

Does owning Bitcoin in an account mean I control its private keys?

No. A custodial account can show Bitcoin that the provider manages for you. A self-custody wallet gives you responsibility for its keys and backup. The destination you choose determines who controls access after delivery.

Does paying by wire guarantee immediate withdrawal?

No. Funding holds vary by provider and payment method. Account reviews, transfer checks and other restrictions can still apply. At Crypto Dispensers, receipt, review and final price approval come before completing the wire purchase.

Will more Bitcoin confirmations clear my account hold?

No. Confirmations apply to a transaction on the Bitcoin network. A funding or account restriction must be resolved with the provider.

Can I track a purchase with no transaction ID?

You can check the purchase and payment status with the provider or bank. A Bitcoin explorer cannot show an internal purchase that has not resulted in a broadcast transfer.
