U.S. crypto service comparison
Looking for another way to buy Bitcoin or trade crypto in the United States? Start with the task you want to complete. An order-book exchange, a recurring Bitcoin app and a guided wire service offer different tools, costs and support. Your state and withdrawal needs can narrow the choice quickly.

For order-book crypto trading, compare Kraken Pro and Gemini ActiveTrader. For recurring Bitcoin purchases, review River and Cash App. If you want help preparing a Bitcoin bank-wire purchase and receiving it in your wallet, consider our Crypto Dispensers wire service alongside those options.
Crypto Dispensers publishes this comparison and sells crypto services. We have a commercial interest when readers choose us. The shortlist is a selection of relevant options, rather than a complete market survey or a promise that one provider suits everyone. We don’t award paid rankings or claim to have tested customer accounts for this guide.
| Option | Why compare it | Check before funding |
|---|---|---|
| Kraken Pro | Order-book trading across supported crypto markets. | State, asset, funding method and withdrawal eligibility. |

| River | Recurring Bitcoin buying. | State eligibility, initial-order fee and quoted price. |
| Cash App | Bitcoin buying in an everyday payments app. | Purchase type, limits and external withdrawal availability. |
| Crypto Dispensers wire service | Help preparing a bank payment, approving a quote and receiving Bitcoin. | State eligibility, reviewed instructions, complete quote and receiving wallet. |

U.S. access can differ across a provider’s trading, funding and transfer features. The following availability checks were made November 2, 2026:
Use your real residence and the provider’s current eligibility checks. A service being available elsewhere in the country doesn’t establish permission for your own account. Verify the asset and receiving network before depositing.
These are useful comparisons when your main goal is placing orders in supported crypto markets. Review the Kraken fee schedule and Gemini ActiveTrader schedule for the specific trading interface. The simple-buy screen can have a different price structure.
A maker order adds liquidity and may wait for a match. A taker order fills against available liquidity. A limit order can still be a taker if it matches immediately, so choosing “limit” doesn’t guarantee a maker fee or a completed purchase.
Before changing providers solely for trading costs, compare your existing Coinbase Advanced fee tier. Coinbase’s fee disclosures distinguish simple purchases, which include spread, from Advanced order-book trading. A better match between the interface and your task may solve the original concern without opening another account.
River is worth comparing when your goal is a regular Bitcoin purchase. Its fee page says recurring orders become fee-free after seven days; the initial order carries the standard fee. River may include spread in its buy or sell price. Check the quote and your withdrawal plan even for a fee-free order.
Cash App’s Bitcoin pricing page describes zero-fee, zero-spread Auto Invest, Round Ups and eligible direct-deposit buying. Market purchases use a separate size-based schedule. Confirm the exact purchase type on the preview. Its Bitcoin disclosures also explain transfer restrictions and that crypto holdings do not receive FDIC or SIPC protection.
For either option, check whether the Bitcoin can be withdrawn when you need it, which transfer method your wallet supports and any minimum or speed selection. This guide compares Bitcoin purchasing features; it doesn’t establish support for another coin you want to move.
Our wire service may fit if you want help with bank instructions, the purchase quote and wallet delivery. We review your request before issuing instructions. After funds arrive and required review is complete, you approve the final price before we buy. The price is not locked when you send the wire.
Ask about the reviewed beneficiary and funding arrangement before payment. Your receiving wallet and bank limits also need checking. We don’t provide the same order-book trading interface described above, and this service doesn’t resolve a restriction or release funds held at Coinbase.
If your priority is the lowest trading charge and you can manage exchange orders yourself, compare the exchange options carefully. Our service is intended for customers who value help with the wire purchase process. Review the costs below before deciding.
| Product or purchase | Published fee structure | What the number leaves out |
|---|---|---|
| Kraken Pro spot, entry tier | 0.40% maker / 0.80% taker in the linked schedule. | Funding, withdrawal and price differences; special pair schedules can apply. |
| Gemini ActiveTrader spot, entry tier | 0.60% maker / 1.20% taker in the September 1, 2026 schedule. | Funding, withdrawals and price differences; higher tiers and special pairs differ. |
| River one-time Bitcoin order | 1.00% for orders up to $1 million in the linked schedule. | Any spread in the quoted price and relevant withdrawal costs. |
| Cash App market buy/sell | Size-based fees; the pricing table shows 2.0% for $1–499 and lower rates at larger sizes. | Any applicable spread and selected transfer charges. Auto Buy has separate terms. |
| Crypto Dispensers wire | Standard starting service fee: 8% of the full wire amount. | Separate bank charges and other applicable quoted costs. Rates may be reviewed and lowered individually as transaction volume grows. |

Use the linked schedules and your actual preview rather than treating this table as a personal quote. For our wire service, confirm any individually reviewed rate before funding. For exchange orders, confirm your current tier and order type.
A fee-free purchase can still have a different quoted price or withdrawal cost. Don’t add spread twice if it is already reflected in the quote. Compare the dollars you will spend with the Bitcoin that will reach the same receiving wallet.
Copy these fields from each provider at roughly the same time. Mark anything unconfirmed as unknown; assuming zero can make an incomplete quote look cheaper.
Eligibility: [State, account type, asset and payment method confirmed]
Total cash outlay: [Purchase funding plus any separately paid bank charge]
Quoted Bitcoin: [Amount after dollar fees and the quoted exchange price]
Separate Bitcoin deduction: [Only a delivery or withdrawal fee not already included]
Net Bitcoin to the receiving wallet: [Quoted Bitcoin minus that separate deduction]
Timing: [Funding settlement, withdrawal availability and quote expiry]
Support and records: [How to get help and retain receipts]
Suppose both options require a $1,000 total cash outlay. Quote A shows 0.01000 BTC after its purchase costs and a separate 0.00010 BTC withdrawal deduction. You would receive 0.00990 BTC. Quote B shows 0.00994 BTC with delivery already included. In this example, B delivers 0.00004 BTC more.
Those invented figures demonstrate the comparison method. They aren’t live quotes or either provider’s advertised offer. Effective cost is $1,000 ÷ net BTC: about $101,010 per BTC for A and $100,604 per BTC for B. Funding timing, account eligibility and wallet support must also fit.
If Coinbase currently shows a withdrawal restriction, our withdrawal troubleshooting guide explains what to inspect. Opening another account doesn’t remove a hold at the original provider. For self-custody, review wallet and recovery responsibilities before sending.
Choose by your task and state. Compare Kraken Pro or Gemini ActiveTrader for order-book trading, River or Cash App for recurring Bitcoin buying, and Crypto Dispensers for a guided bank-wire purchase. Confirm current eligibility and complete costs.
There is no universal answer. Compare the same payment method, order size, interface, account tier and withdrawal outcome. Use an actual Coinbase preview and a competing quote collected at roughly the same time.
Gemini’s directory lists New York. Kraken and River exclude it in the linked guidance, and our wire service also excludes it. Check individual features; Cash App’s linked announcement excludes Lightning in New York.
Check the legal product and its disclosures. Cash App’s Bitcoin disclosures, for example, say crypto holdings aren’t protected by FDIC or SIPC. A provider offering separate banking features doesn’t establish insurance for its crypto balance.
First preserve your records and check pending orders, balances and restrictions. You can evaluate another service before deciding whether to close an existing account. Follow the provider’s official closure instructions when ready.
A new provider cannot remove Coinbase’s hold. Resolve the original funding, verification or account restriction through Coinbase’s official process.
