Choosing where to buy

Where to buy cryptocurrency.

You can buy cryptocurrency through exchanges, brokers, card services and bank-funded providers. Start with the coin you want, where you live and how you want to pay. No single provider necessarily sells every cryptocurrency.

Where can I buy any cryptocurrency?

Start with a provider that lists the specific cryptocurrency and supports customers where you live. An exchange may list many assets, while a broker or payment service may offer a smaller selection. A decentralized exchange can offer other tokens, but it usually requires compatible crypto in a wallet before you can swap.

“Any cryptocurrency” is a useful question, but it is not a service promise. A coin can appear on a price website without being available to buy through that website. A provider may also support buying an asset while restricting withdrawals or supporting only certain networks.

Use this order: choose the asset, confirm your location is eligible, compare how to pay, then check where the crypto will be held or delivered. If you are looking specifically for Bitcoin, our Bitcoin buying page compares the payment options available through Crypto Dispensers.

The main places people buy cryptocurrency.

These categories overlap. One app may offer exchange trading, a simple purchase screen and a third-party card checkout. Identify who provides the actual transaction and what happens after you pay.

Centralized exchanges

Often suit people comparing several listed assets or using an order book. Check trading costs, funding holds and the conditions for withdrawing to your own wallet.

Brokers and buying apps

A quoted purchase can be easier to follow than an order book. Compare the total you pay with the crypto you receive, and check whether you can transfer the asset out.

Card on-ramps

These connect an eligible card payment to a crypto purchase, sometimes inside another app. Check the checkout provider, bank approval, fees and receiving wallet.

Bank-funded services and OTC desks

These may suit buyers who prefer bank funding or personal assistance. A wire is a payment method. It does not automatically make a purchase an over-the-counter trade.

Decentralized exchanges

These let a compatible wallet interact with trading protocols. You need the right network, tokens and network-fee asset. Token names and logos do not establish authenticity.

Cryptocurrency ATMs

Some machines offer cash purchases of supported assets. Check the operator, full cost and receiving wallet. Crypto Dispensers does not currently offer in-store cash deposits or cash loading.

The FTC’s cryptocurrency guide covers buying channels and risks. Never use a machine or app because a caller says you must protect your bank account, avoid arrest or release promised money. Read our scam warning signs before responding to pressure.

Choose how you want to pay.

Confirm that the payment method is available for your asset and account before sending funds. A completed card charge or bank transfer is not the same as a completed crypto delivery.

Payment methods to compare before buying
MethodWhat it may suitWhat to check
Bank wireA Bitcoin purchase with help preparing bank funding.Current instructions, account-name requirements, bank cutoff, review and when you approve the final price.
ACH transferAn eligible U.S. bank-account purchase when you can allow time for settlement.Funds must clear and required checks must finish before release. Our ACH page explains the current timing.
Debit cardAn available card checkout using money in your bank account.Provider fees, total charge, issuer approval, supported asset and wallet delivery.
Credit cardAn eligible purchase where the provider and issuer allow it.Borrowing costs, cash-advance treatment, interest and the complete provider quote.
Crypto-to-crypto swapExchanging an asset you already hold for another supported asset. The exact pair, sending and receiving networks, required memo or tag, fees and quote deadline.

On a small screen, swipe the table to see every column.

A provider’s published methods may differ by country. For example, Coinbase’s payment-method documentation separates buying, adding funds and withdrawing funds. Confirm the action you need rather than relying on a payment logo.

Before using credit, ask your issuer whether the transaction counts as a cash advance. The CFPB notes that cryptocurrency purchases can trigger cash-advance fees. Borrowing to buy a volatile asset adds costs even if its price falls.

Find the coin and the receiving network.

We publish buying guides for the assets below. Follow the relevant guide, then check your account for the offers and payment methods available to you. These links do not mean every asset is available through every payment method or in every location.

Match the full asset name and network to your receiving wallet. ETH and tokens on Ethereum are not interchangeable. USDC can exist on different networks; the receiving service must support the one you select. XRP destinations may require a destination tag as well as an address.

Our crypto price page helps you research prices. The live purchase offer confirms what you can actually buy. If you already hold crypto, review our supported swap options.

Compare the full cost, not just the listed fee.

For the same asset, amount, network and time, compare the total dollars leaving your account with the crypto that reaches your intended wallet. A low advertised service fee can coexist with a less favorable exchange rate or additional withdrawal charges.

  • Purchase quote: check the price, provider charge and crypto amount.
  • Payment cost: ask whether your bank or issuer charges separately.
  • Delivery cost: check network and withdrawal fees, including which ones the quote already includes.
  • Timing: confirm funding holds, review conditions and when the quote expires or the final price is approved.

A simple quote comparison

If two quotes charge the same total dollar amount for the same coin and delivery network, compare the amount arriving in your wallet after all stated charges. A quote showing more crypto before a separate withdrawal fee may not deliver more after it.

This is a comparison method, not a live quote or a fee schedule.

Use our Bitcoin calculator for USD and BTC estimates, then check the actual offer. For bank-funded Bitcoin, review wire fees and the cost calculator. As your transaction volume with us grows, our team can review your rate and may be able to lower it individually. There is no fixed discount schedule or automatic reduction.

Check the provider, custody and wallet before paying.

  1. Confirm the business and official website.

Find the legal business name, terms, support channel and the entity handling your transaction. Use an independently found website, not a link sent by someone promising returns.

  2. Check what a registration record actually says.

Where applicable, check the legal name in FinCEN’s MSB register and relevant state records. FinCEN registration is not a license, endorsement or certification of legitimacy. Requirements depend on the business and jurisdiction.

  3. Understand who controls the crypto.

A custodial account means a provider controls the signing keys. With self-custody, you manage the keys and recovery process. Confirm whether a purchase stays in an account or is sent to your receiving wallet.

  4. Confirm the destination before authorizing.

Check the asset, network, complete address and any required memo or tag. Never share secret recovery words or private keys. Support cannot make an incompatible network or wrong destination safe.

See FinCEN’s explanation of its registration records. Our company verification page and how money moves guide show the kinds of business and transaction details you can inspect.

Our wallet guide explains custody. The Bitcoin address checklist gives you a practical receiving-address check.

How to start with Crypto Dispensers.

If you decide to buy through us, create your account and check the options available for your location and intended asset. Follow the identity and payment checks shown. Account creation does not authorize a purchase or guarantee approval.

For Bitcoin by wire, our team can help you prepare the request and understand the approved bank instructions. After funds arrive and the required review is complete, you review the costs and approve the final price before we complete the purchase. Follow your order status through wallet delivery.

For an available card, ACH or swap offer, review the provider, total cost, receiving wallet and timing shown for that transaction. If a payment is pending or you have already been charged, contact support before trying again.

Questions about where to buy cryptocurrency.

Where can I buy any cryptocurrency?

Look for a provider that lists the exact asset and supports your location, payment method and receiving network. No single service necessarily sells every cryptocurrency. Confirm purchase and withdrawal availability separately.

Can I buy cryptocurrency with a bank account?

Some services accept ACH or wire funding from eligible accounts. Availability, checks and settlement differ. At Crypto Dispensers, review our current Bitcoin ACH and wire guides, then confirm the options in your account.

Is an exchange cheaper than buying with a card?

Compare complete offers. Trading, funding, price spread, withdrawal and network charges can change the result. Card purchases may also involve separate issuer charges. Compare the same asset, total payment and receiving network.

Can I swap crypto without buying with dollars?

Yes, when a provider or protocol supports the asset pair and networks you need. You must already hold the sending asset and cover any required fees. Check the quote and receiving details before transferring.

Does FinCEN registration mean a provider is government approved?

No. FinCEN says inclusion in its MSB register is not a recommendation, certification of legitimacy or endorsement. Check the relevant business, state permissions and terms rather than relying on a registration badge.

Does Crypto Dispensers still accept in-store cash deposits?

No. In-store cash deposits and cash loading are not current services. Review the online payment methods shown in your account. For an earlier cash payment, keep your receipt and contact our support team.
