01

Begin with the Bitcoin task you need.

For a Bitcoin purchase, compare Strike’s buy screen with the Coinbase mode you will actually use. For a payment, first find out whether the recipient expects an on-chain address or a Lightning request. Choosing a service before checking that request can leave you with the wrong workflow.

This guide focuses on buying and moving Bitcoin for U.S. readers. It does not compare borrowing products, stocks, or investment returns.

02

Separate the trade from the later payment.

Strike’s current published trading schedule starts at 0.89% and changes with volume. A qualifying recurring-purchase fee waiver does not make every cost disappear: its current documentation also describes a variable spread. Coinbase simple-buy costs are quoted at order time; Advanced uses its own trading-fee structure. Strike: trading fees; Coinbase pricing and fee disclosures.

Sending from a cash balance can be a different transaction from first buying Bitcoin. Strike documents a 1% conversion spread for cash-funded Bitcoin sends. A send from a Bitcoin balance has a different cost treatment. Do not use the buy fee as the complete cost of a payment. Strike: sending cash or bitcoin.

Our published-fee study shows what can and cannot be calculated from public schedules.

03

Ask what the recipient can receive.

On a small screen, swipe the table to see every column.

Coinbase documents Lightning payments through invoices, rather than Lightning addresses. Strike lists several Lightning request types in its send documentation. Compatibility must be checked for the particular request, not inferred from the word “Lightning.” Coinbase: Bitcoin Lightning; Strike: sending cash or bitcoin.

Record a comparison you can reproduce.

  1. Use the same destination, amount and funding method where both accounts support them.
  2. Record the exact product mode and whether funds are already settled.
  3. For a recurring plan, distinguish the first purchase from later eligible purchases.
  4. Capture the final BTC received and total dollar cost at approximately the same time.
  5. Keep the quote expiry and current withdrawal availability with your record.

Do not compare a completed bank-funded purchase on one service with an immediately spendable card purchase on another without labeling that difference. They answer different needs.

05

Choose for your purchase and your recipient.

If you already have a compatible payment request and settled Bitcoin, compare the send previews. If you are starting with dollars, include the conversion and funding step. If the recipient cannot accept the selected network, stop and ask for the right request.

A lower-cost purchase can still be inconvenient if the Bitcoin is unavailable when you need to send it. A faster displayed option can cost more. Decide which conditions you need before choosing the quote. Our withdrawal guide explains the difference between a purchase and a released balance.

Prefer to talk through your wire purchase?

If your goal is to buy Bitcoin from your bank account and receive it in your own wallet, our team can help you work through the purchase. We explain the required checks and current wire instructions, present the final quote for your approval, and arrange delivery to your confirmed wallet.

Our wire service fee is 8% below $100,000 or 5% at $100,000 or more, applied to the whole wire amount. Your bank’s charge is separate, and other quoted costs may apply. These published wire fees are higher than the calculated app purchase fees in our fee study. If you want a team to help coordinate your purchase, talk with us about your amount and receiving wallet.

Your final price is confirmed after funds arrive, and required checks still apply. You can read one documented purchase to see the steps before speaking with us.

Strike also offers Strike Private with a dedicated relationship manager. If you want assisted service, compare the help included and the complete quote from each provider.
