You can buy Bitcoin inside Cash App and, when your account and balance are eligible, send it to a receiving wallet. Before you pay, check the quote and whether the Bitcoin will be available to withdraw. Those checks matter if your goal is to receive Bitcoin outside the app.

We’ll walk through the purchase, explain the costs to compare and help you prepare for wallet delivery. Crypto Dispensers also offers Bitcoin purchases, so we have a commercial interest in the alternatives discussed here. We don’t operate Cash App or control its account decisions.

Before you buy Bitcoin on Cash App

Open the official app and check whether Bitcoin buying is available for your account. Complete the verification it requests and read any account-specific restrictions before adding money for a purchase.

Have these details ready:

  • Your intended dollar budget, including applicable costs.
  • An eligible funding source that belongs to you.
  • Your receiving wallet’s Bitcoin address if you plan to withdraw.
  • The network that the receiving wallet supports.

Cash App’s Bitcoin overview describes purchases starting at $1 and says identity verification may be required. Feature availability can differ by location and account. Cash App says Lightning is unavailable to New York residents.

Decide whether you want to hold Bitcoin in the app or move it to a separate wallet. With a self-custody wallet, you are responsible for safeguarding its recovery phrase. Our Bitcoin wallet guide explains what to consider before choosing one.

How to make a Bitcoin purchase

Cash App’s published starting point is the Money tab, followed by Bitcoin. App labels and placement can change, so follow the current purchase screen in your account.

  1. Open Bitcoin and choose Buy. Enter the amount you’re considering.
  2. Check the purchase type. Confirm whether this is a single purchase or a recurring instruction. Review the schedule before enabling automatic purchases.
  3. Review the funding source. Make sure the money will come from the account or balance you intend to use.
  4. Read the final quote. Check the total dollars, quoted Bitcoin amount, fees and exchange rate before confirming.
  5. Save the purchase record. After completing an order, retain its confirmation and check the Bitcoin activity in your account.

You can stop before confirming if the amount, funding source or costs are different from what you expected. A useful comparison starts with the same dollar budget and ends with the Bitcoin available in the wallet you intend to use.

Cash App Bitcoin fees and the final quote

Cash App’s published fee table, checked November 7, 2026, lists these market buy/sell rates:

Transaction size shown by Cash App Published market buy/sell fee
$1–$499 2.0%
$500–$999 1.5%
$1,000–$1,999 0.9%
$2,000+ 0%

The same page lists zero-fee Auto Buy options and says some purchases are spread-free. For other quoted trades, it describes a possible spread of 0%–0.75%. Its table uses “$2,000+,” while accompanying prose says “over $2,000.” Check your actual confirmation screen, particularly at a boundary amount.

A purchase fee, a spread in the quoted price and a withdrawal charge affect different parts of the cost. Cash App lists fee-free standard withdrawals subject to a minimum and separate Lightning pricing. Confirm the current option and conditions in the app before relying on either.

For your own comparison, record:

  • Total dollars paid: the complete amount charged for the purchase.
  • BTC purchased: the Bitcoin credited by the order.
  • BTC delivered: the amount expected in your receiving wallet after any transfer costs.

Our Bitcoin purchase fee study explains why public schedules and actual quotes can differ. A low advertised purchase fee alone doesn’t settle the full comparison.

Limits and when you can withdraw

Check the limits shown for your own account rather than relying on a fixed number from an older guide. Buying limits, available balance and external-transfer limits answer different questions.

Cash App’s February 2026 update announced higher withdrawal limits for eligible customers. It doesn’t establish the limit or approval for your account today.

Its U.S. virtual-currency terms also explain that Bitcoin bought with provisionally credited external funding can be subject to withdrawal restrictions while funding settles. A purchase balance therefore needs to be checked alongside the amount available to send.

If you need Bitcoin in another wallet by a particular date, check availability before placing the order. Ask Cash App support about a displayed restriction or unclear release condition. A new purchase won’t resolve an existing hold.

Send Bitcoin to an external wallet

Cash App’s overview directs customers to Bitcoin, then the arrows and Send. Before authorizing a transfer, open the receiving wallet yourself and copy its current receive details.

  1. Choose the supported transfer method. An on-chain Bitcoin address and a Lightning invoice have different requirements. Use the method both sides support.
  2. Check the recipient details. Review the complete address or invoice, the amount and the network in the transfer preview.
  3. Review the delivery option. Read any fee, minimum, estimate or available-balance message before confirming.
  4. Keep the transfer record. For an on-chain transfer, retain the transaction ID when available and verify the receiving address.

For a new receiving setup, consider a small test that meets the service’s minimum and makes sense after fees. Verify that it arrives before deciding on a larger transfer.

Bitcoin.org explains why on-chain transactions need confirmations and why block timing varies. A provider’s estimate doesn’t guarantee the receiving service will credit your balance at that exact time. Our receiving Bitcoin guide covers the checks at the wallet end.

Transfers to an incorrect address or unsupported network may be unrecoverable. Keep recovery phrases and private keys private, including when someone claims to be investigating a missing payment.

Cash App Card and other buying options

Buying through Cash App’s Bitcoin feature and entering a Cash App Card at a separate checkout create different purchase records. For a card checkout, the named purchase provider determines its accepted cards, verification, quote and delivery conditions. A card working for ordinary shopping doesn’t establish acceptance for a Bitcoin order.

We haven’t verified universal Cash App Card acceptance across Crypto Dispensers providers. Check the available offer and ask about your card before authorizing payment. Avoid sending money to a personal $cashtag supplied by someone claiming they can complete a purchase for you.

If you’re comparing alternatives, our Cash App comparison discusses our supported buying service. You can also compare Crypto Dispensers payment options, including available debit-card, ACH and wire purchases. We don’t currently provide retail cash loading. Purchases are unavailable in Georgia, Nevada, New York and Washington; account, provider and purchase checks apply elsewhere.

Review the full quote and receiving-wallet conditions for each option. If our service fits what you need, create an account to review available offers. Existing customers can sign in.

If buying or sending doesn’t finish

Read the exact status before repeating a payment. Check whether the issue is funding, verification, the purchase itself or a separate withdrawal. Cash App’s status page can help you check for a reported service incident.

Contact Cash App through its official app or help site for a Cash App order. Have the amount, date, order or transfer reference and exact message ready. For a separate provider checkout, use the provider named on the order. Crypto Dispensers can help with our own account and purchase records.

Our pending Bitcoin purchase checklist explains charges, holds and missing delivery. If payment appears pending or posted, establish what happened to the first attempt before starting another.

The FTC’s cryptocurrency guidance explains common scam tactics. Don’t pay someone who promises guaranteed returns or demands extra crypto to release an alleged prize or profit.

Common questions and sources

Can I buy Bitcoin without a linked bank account?

Look at the eligible balance and funding sources offered in your Cash App account. A payment-app balance, a card purchase and a bank transfer have different conditions. Our buying without a bank account guide explains the distinctions without promising acceptance.

Does buying Bitcoin send it to my own wallet automatically?

Review where the order credits your Bitcoin. A purchase held in Cash App and an external-wallet transfer are separate actions unless you have explicitly configured a supported automatic feature. Check the transfer record and receiving balance.

Is Bitcoin in Cash App FDIC insured?

Cash App’s Bitcoin disclosures state that virtual-currency holdings have no FDIC or SIPC protection. Bitcoin’s price can fall, and you can lose money.

How current is this guide?

We reviewed the linked official Cash App, Bitcoin.org and FTC sources on November 7, 2026. We haven’t made a test purchase or accessed a customer account for this article. Check the current app and terms before paying, since fees, features, eligibility and transfer conditions can change.
