Comparisons / Crypto swaps
You want to exchange crypto and know what will reach your wallet. Coinbase and Changelly handle that task differently. We’ll help you check eligibility, compare the complete quote and understand what can delay a transfer.

For U.S. readers, eligibility comes first. Changelly’s standard exchange Terms of Use, section 5.1.3, checked November 2, 2026, list the United States, including its territories, as a restricted location. The terms also cover nationality and residency. Check those terms before considering its direct swap service.
Changelly’s Marketplace connects users with separate fiat providers whose own terms apply. A card-purchase offer through a partner does not establish eligibility for Changelly’s standard crypto exchange. This comparison focuses on Coinbase personal-account trading and Changelly’s standard swap product. Changelly PRO and DeFi products have separate rules.
For Coinbase, check that your country, account and chosen asset support the transaction you want. Product availability and withdrawal access can vary. We haven’t assumed that every Coinbase feature is available to every reader.
Our commercial interest: Crypto Dispensers offers crypto buying, selling and swapping services, so this comparison has a commercial purpose. We researched the direct products using official documents and did not place test trades. Services offered through other businesses can involve separate providers and terms.
| What you want to do | Coinbase personal account | Changelly standard swap |
|---|---|---|
| Buy using cash | Review the payment methods and quote available in your account. | Cash purchases use Marketplace providers with their own charges and requirements. |
| Exchange crypto you already own | Use a supported conversion or Advanced market. Each has its own fee model. | Create a swap and provide a receiving wallet, subject to eligibility. |
| Keep crypto after the transaction | You can retain supported crypto in a hosted account balance. | The standard swap sends the output to the receiving address you supply. |
| Control the trade price | Advanced supports order-book trading. A limit order can remain unfilled. | Choose a fixed or floating quote, each with its own conditions. |

Changelly describes its standard exchange as delivering crypto to your supplied wallet, rather than providing an ongoing wallet balance. See Changelly’s product explanation. Coinbase’s hosted account, Advanced trading and self-custody DEX features are distinct experiences. Its DEX introduction explains that separate option.
| Product | What to check |
|---|---|
| Coinbase simple conversion | The preview shows the transaction fee and exchange rate. Spread is included in the conversion rate. |
| Coinbase Advanced | Use the signed-in fee tier for the specific market and maker/taker fill. A conversion involving two trades can incur two sets of trading costs. |
| Changelly floating-rate swap | Its FAQ lists a 0.25% service fee plus a network fee. The final output can change with the market. |
| Changelly fixed-rate swap | Its FAQ describes a dynamic fee included in the quoted rate. Use the complete output quote and its time/amount conditions. |
| Cash purchase through Changelly Marketplace | The selected fiat provider sets purchase fees. Check its quote and terms separately. |

Compare the same starting asset with the same ending asset in the same receiving wallet. Include any cost to send your input crypto, the conversion price, trading or service charges and the final transfer charge. Count a charge once if the displayed output already includes it.
Changelly’s terms specify the floating service fee is taken from the output amount and can differ for API partners. See section 3 of its terms. As arithmetic only, a 0.25% deduction from a hypothetical pre-fee output of 0.010000 BTC is 0.000025 BTC, leaving 0.009975 BTC before a separate network deduction. This is not a live quote.
Coinbase Advanced adds no Coinbase spread; market bid/ask differences and slippage can still affect the price. Its maker/taker rate depends on your account and order. A limit order that fills immediately can pay a taker rate. Use the order preview instead of a generic Coinbase fee quoted elsewhere.
Begin with a transaction you’re eligible to make. Record the total input coin debited and the net output delivered to the same wallet on the same network. Use quotes taken close together, and note whether each is an estimate or a conditional fixed quote.
| Measure | Example quote A | Example quote B |
|---|---|---|
| Total ETH debited | 1.002 ETH | 1.002 ETH |
| Net BTC delivered | 0.03450 BTC | 0.03465 BTC |
| Net BTC per total ETH spent | 0.03443114 BTC | 0.03458084 BTC |
On a small screen, swipe the table to see every column.
In this invented example, B delivers 0.00015 BTC more for the same ETH debit, about 0.43% more BTC. These numbers explain the method; they are not Coinbase or Changelly offers, current prices or a recommendation to trade.
Enter figures from two eligible quotes. Use the full ETH debit and BTC delivered after all included charges. If a charge is paid in a third asset, keep that cost alongside the results.
Enter all four amounts to compare net BTC per ETH spent.
Formula: net BTC per ETH spent = net BTC delivered ÷ total ETH debited. Percentage difference = (B’s ratio ÷ A’s ratio − 1) × 100. This measures the quoted output per input coin; it does not establish eligibility, safety or future execution.
Coinbase requires identity verification when creating an account and can request it again. Account functions are limited until verification is complete. Follow requests inside your signed-in account and use its official identity-verification guidance.
Changelly says verification may be requested for a transaction. Its KYC guidance describes holds, identity documents and possible source-of-funds requests. Sending to a swap address can therefore be followed by a review. Allow for that possibility before committing funds you need by a deadline.
Changelly’s transaction guide ties a fixed quote to the specified incoming amount and time window. A floating quote can change during processing. Check the current timer and amount instructions before sending. Funds sent late or in the wrong amount can require manual handling or a refund subject to applicable charges.
An account balance available for trading may still be unavailable for withdrawal. On Coinbase, read the available-to-send balance and any hold notice before planning wallet delivery. If you’re troubleshooting that problem, use our Coinbase withdrawal guide.
For a standard Changelly swap, the provider processes the incoming transfer and sends the output to the address you supply. The lack of an ongoing hosted balance doesn’t remove transfer, counterparty or review risk. Coinbase hosted balances also involve account access and provider risk. Self-custody adds responsibility for your own keys and recovery.
Check the complete receiving address, coin, network and any required memo or tag. Save the order reference, quote details and blockchain transaction IDs. Incorrect transfer details can cause a permanent loss. Our wallet guide explains what to prepare.
Your choice starts with eligibility, complete quotes and the time you can allow for verification and delivery. Crypto prices can fall, and neither a fixed swap quote nor a low trading fee protects your investment value.
Its standard exchange terms list the United States, including territories, among restricted locations, checked November 2, 2026. Marketplace purchases involve separate fiat-provider terms. Check the exact product’s current eligibility terms.
Compare the same pair, networks and final wallet using current quotes. A service percentage leaves out differences in the exchange rate and sending or withdrawal charges. Account rates and partner terms can also differ.
It can request KYC and place a transaction on hold for review. Its verification guidance describes identity and source-of-funds requests. Don’t plan a swap around an assumption of anonymity.
Its simple conversion, Advanced order-book trading and DEX feature use different pricing rules. Read the product name, fee breakdown and quote in your own account.
The quoted amount depends on meeting the incoming amount and time requirements. Review the fixed-rate conditions before sending. An expired quote or incorrect transfer can require further handling.
The receiving wallet must support the exact asset and network. Compare like-for-like transfers and keep any bridging or withdrawal cost separate. A token representing Bitcoin is a different asset from native BTC on the Bitcoin network.

We reviewed the official documents below, checked eligibility separately from pricing, and calculated the worksheet and calculator results using the visible formulas. We used AI assistance to prepare the guide and illustration. We did not place test trades, verify your account or collect live executable quotes. Examples are invented arithmetic, and the artwork is an editorial illustration.
Provider terms, features and prices can change. Recheck the documents and transaction preview before using a service. Read our editorial and research standards for more about our approach.
Crypto prices can fall and you can lose money. Fees, eligibility, verification and timing depend on the service and your account.
