Accounts, access and wallets
Coinbase advises users to avoid additional personal accounts. Before creating another login, check whether you need to recover your existing account, apply for business access or manage separate wallets. Each situation has different requirements.

For personal use, start with your existing Coinbase account and recover access if needed. Coinbase’s duplicate-account guidance tells users to avoid additional accounts. It specifically warns against duplicates for promotions and attempts to bypass restrictions.
The exact agreement depends on where you live and which product you use. In the UK User Agreement, section 3.1, Coinbase states: “Each customer may register only one Coinbase account.” That document describes its own geographic scope.
The U.S. Individual User Agreement, section 1.2 covers verification, use for yourself and Coinbase’s ability to refuse or restrict accounts. Use the agreement that applies to your location, and ask Coinbase for confirmation before opening a second personal account for a particular need. A different email address alone doesn’t establish permission.
Crypto Dispensers provides crypto services and publishes this guide for education. We can explain the published distinctions, but Coinbase decides its own account eligibility, recovery and approvals. This guide does not confirm permission for an individual account.
| Your goal | The relevant check |
|---|---|
| Recover an old personal login | Coinbase account recovery for lost credentials or email access. |
| Separate company and personal activity | Business-account eligibility and the relevant business agreement. |
| Give an accountant access to company records | Business team permissions instead of sharing a personal password. |
| Keep several self-custody wallets | Wallet-management features and each wallet’s recovery method. |
| Use Coinbase Advanced | Advanced access through the existing Coinbase account. |

A new login with a zero balance can be an accidental duplicate. Coinbase recommends checking the sign-in method used for the original account, including Apple’s private-relay email, saved credentials or Google sign-in. See its duplicate-account help page.
An empty-looking account can have several explanations. Check its login and history rather than assuming that funds were lost or transferred. Our Coinbase issues guide helps organize the other checks.
Coinbase publishes separate individual and business agreements. Personal accounts are intended for your own non-commercial use. Company activity belongs under the appropriate business arrangement and its verification requirements.
The current Business application guidance tells applicants to use an email address that isn’t linked to an existing Coinbase account, balance or payment method. Business and beneficial-owner verification are required before activation. Check the listed country and entity eligibility; an application does not guarantee approval.
Coinbase describes a separate process when a business bank account has been linked to a personal account. Its business-bank-account guidance explains that an approved application through the notification can convert the existing account, with its balances and activity carrying over. Some personal-account features are unavailable after conversion, so review those differences first.
The new-application and notification-based conversion instructions address different starting situations. Follow the process actually offered to your account instead of assuming that every business user should create another login.
Coinbase.com’s joint-account guidance says it does not support joint Coinbase accounts. A linked joint bank account is a separate payment-method question and doesn’t turn the Coinbase profile into joint ownership.
If another person wants personal access, they should check their own eligibility and verification requirements. The U.S. individual agreement requires use for yourself unless Coinbase has given prior written approval for third-party use.
For company work, Coinbase Business team access supports separate credentials and roles. A bookkeeper role, for example, has view-only access rather than permission to move funds. Choose the role that matches the work instead of sharing the owner’s password.
Coinbase’s wallet-management guide, reviewed November 2, 2026, supports up to 10 created and imported wallets combined, with separate portfolios and recovery arrangements. Wallet addresses and wallet entries are different from duplicate custodial Coinbase logins. Check the wallet type and supported networks before moving assets.
Keep each wallet’s recovery method secure. A passkey, email/social sign-in and recovery phrase can involve different restoration steps. Our Coinbase account versus wallet comparison explains the broader control and recovery differences.
Coinbase Advanced is a trading feature within Coinbase. The provider’s Advanced transition guidance says customers don’t need a new Coinbase account to access it. Older Coinbase Pro instructions should be read in that product-history context.
Before signing up again, classify the need. This short worksheet helps you ask Coinbase a specific question:
Purpose: [Recover access, separate company activity, manage wallets or invite a team member]
Current product: [Personal Coinbase, Business, Prime or a self-custody wallet]
Applicable agreement: [Country and account type]
Existing records: [Balances, pending activity and reports to preserve]
Question for support: [Which approved account or access process fits this need?]
Use Coinbase’s official support channels for account-specific confirmation. Share relevant identifiers only through verified channels. Keep passwords, verification codes and wallet recovery secrets private.
Creating accounts for additional promotions violates Coinbase’s published guidance. A new login also won’t remove restrictions on the original account. Resolve those matters with Coinbase before taking further action.
A different email does not establish permission. Coinbase’s duplicate-account guidance says to avoid additional accounts. Check your applicable regional agreement and ask support about your specific need.
Coinbase’s Advanced guidance says a new Coinbase account is unnecessary. Use the existing account for eligible Advanced access.
Coinbase offers distinct individual and business arrangements. Review business eligibility and the application or conversion process that applies to your situation; approval is required.
Coinbase.com does not support joint Coinbase accounts according to its joint-account guidance. A joint bank payment method is a separate issue.
First identify the correct account, balances, pending activity and records. Closure is permanent. Use the official closure guidance and support before closing the wrong account.
The wallet guide reviewed November 2, 2026, lists up to 10 created and imported wallets combined. This is a Coinbase Wallet limit; personal exchange-account permissions follow separate rules.

We checked current Coinbase help pages and the geographic scope of the linked U.S. and UK agreements. The decision table and account-purpose checklist are our editorial synthesis. We used AI assistance to prepare the guide and illustration. We did not open, merge, close or test customer accounts, and we haven’t confirmed an individual customer’s eligibility.
