You can buy Bitcoin through an eligible PayPal account, or use PayPal to pay a crypto provider when its checkout offers that option. Before you choose, decide where you want your Bitcoin to arrive. That affects the steps, transfer requirements and total cost.

This guide covers U.S. purchases and the checks to make before paying. We’ll also explain what to do when a payment appears in your activity but the Bitcoin hasn’t arrived.

Choose how you want to use PayPal

There are several ways a PayPal purchase can work:

  • Buy inside PayPal. You purchase Bitcoin in your PayPal crypto account and arrange a separate transfer if you want to send it elsewhere.
  • Choose PayPal in a provider’s checkout. A service such as MoonPay handles the crypto order and offers PayPal as a funding option when eligible.
  • Buy through a supported wallet’s PayPal integration. Some wallets let eligible customers buy and send crypto through PayPal in one transaction. Asset and wallet support matter; a PayPal button alone doesn’t establish Bitcoin availability.

Read the provider name and receiving-wallet details on the actual offer. PayPal’s supported-wallet guide describes its own integration. A different provider can have different terms.

Buying Bitcoin inside PayPal

According to PayPal’s purchase instructions, the web flow starts in Finances:

  1. Select Buy and choose Bitcoin.
  2. Enter the amount and check the purchase frequency. Select One-time if you want a single purchase.
  3. Choose an eligible funding source and continue.
  4. Review the Bitcoin quantity, exchange rate, fees and payment details.
  5. Confirm with Buy Now when you’re ready.

PayPal lists an eligible balance, bank account and debit card as funding sources for crypto purchases. Credit cards and PayPal Credit aren’t supported for this purpose. Having a card saved in PayPal doesn’t make it eligible for every transaction.

For a personal crypto account, the current crypto terms require U.S. or territory residency, the applicable minimum age and identity verification. Check your account’s eligibility and current offer before funding it for a purchase.

Paying a provider through PayPal

MoonPay’s PayPal guide lists PayPal balance, bank transfer and eligible Visa or Mastercard debit cards for U.S. payments. Its linking requirements include matching account countries and a PayPal account in your own name.

For an eligible checkout, choose Bitcoin and the amount, check the receiving address, then select PayPal if shown. Complete PayPal authentication, review the selected funding source and follow the confirmation screens through the provider’s order receipt. Keep that reference so support can identify the purchase.

Through Crypto Dispensers, PayPal appears only when the integrated provider makes it available for your account and transaction. Review our PayPal buying option for the account steps. We don’t offer purchases in Georgia, Nevada, New York or Washington State. Other locations remain subject to account, provider and transaction checks.

Please use the payment instructions inside checkout. Don’t send a person-to-person PayPal payment to our team to fund a Bitcoin order.

Compare the cost through wallet delivery

Start with the total dollars leaving your funding source and the Bitcoin you’ll receive after applicable costs. A payment app’s ordinary transfer pricing doesn’t tell you the price of a crypto purchase.

For a purchase inside PayPal, review its disclosed exchange rate and transaction fee. Its crypto terms explain that the exchange rate includes a spread, which is a margin between the provider’s market price and the price shown to you. A linked bank or debit-card issuer may also charge separately. PayPal’s fee explanation describes those costs.

If you plan to send Bitcoin out afterward, include the external-transfer network fee. PayPal’s supported-wallet buy-and-send feature has its own pricing explanation. Read the quote for the specific flow instead of applying one fee schedule to every PayPal-funded purchase.

For another provider’s checkout, review that provider’s complete quote, delivery amount and terms. You can compare offers using the same planned spend and receiving wallet. A hypothetical quote with a lower percentage fee can still deliver less Bitcoin if its exchange rate or other charges differ.

Bitcoin can lose substantial value. Its price may change while you’re reviewing a quote. Buying it doesn’t guarantee a return, and a completed crypto transaction may be irreversible.

Sending Bitcoin from PayPal to your wallet

PayPal supports eligible external crypto transfers. Its transfer instructions describe opening your crypto balance, choosing the transfer arrows and selecting Send. Enter the receiving Bitcoin address, choose an amount and review the details before confirming.

Check that your wallet supports the asset and network shown. Bitcoin (BTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) use different receiving details. Sending to the wrong address or an unsupported network can lose the funds, and PayPal says completed transfers can’t be reversed.

Check the available amount, minimum transfer, network charge and account limits before making a small purchase specifically for withdrawal. Recent bank-funded purchases can take multiple days to clear. Account restrictions can also affect sending. Ask PayPal about a hold on funds in its service.

If you need help preparing a receiving address, our Bitcoin wallet guide explains the basics. Keep your recovery phrase private.

If payment stops or Bitcoin doesn’t arrive

Check the order status and PayPal activity before paying again. An expired quote or checkout doesn’t establish why the purchase stopped. A pending entry also needs clarification before you treat it as a completed charge.

  • Checkout didn’t finish: record the error and the screen where it stopped. Confirm whether the provider issued an order reference.
  • Money appears charged: ask the order provider whether payment settled, remains pending or is being returned. Ask about the actual order’s timeline before creating another payment.
  • Bitcoin was marked sent: request the transaction ID and compare the receiving address with your wallet. Confirm the delivery network and status.
  • You don’t recognize the payment: contact PayPal and the named provider through their official support channels promptly.

For a Crypto Dispensers checkout, contact our team with the provider, order reference, status and whether money appears charged. For a purchase entirely inside PayPal, use PayPal’s Help Center.

If a caller tells you to buy Bitcoin to cancel a charge or protect your account, stop and verify independently. MoonPay’s support-impersonation warning explains this scam. Never give a caller your password, one-time codes or wallet recovery phrase.

Common questions about PayPal Bitcoin purchases

Can I use my PayPal balance without charging my bank for that purchase?

An eligible PayPal balance can fund a crypto purchase. Confirm the selected source on the approval screen and check any account-linking requirements. We can’t promise a particular account or provider will accept it.

Does using PayPal mean I can skip identity verification?

PayPal and the crypto provider can each require account checks. Follow the official verification process for the service you’re using.

Is buying Bitcoin with PayPal the same as buying PYUSD?

Bitcoin and PayPal USD (PYUSD) are different assets. Check that the quote says Bitcoin (BTC) when that’s what you intend to buy. PYUSD pricing or fee promotions don’t establish Bitcoin’s costs.

Can Crypto Dispensers release Bitcoin held in PayPal?

PayPal handles restrictions on its own crypto accounts. Our team can help with your Crypto Dispensers order and explain its provider’s status.
