Coinbase App Down? Check Status and Fix Loading Problems

The Coinbase app won’t open, keeps loading or closes by itself. Before resetting it, compare what happens in the app with Coinbase’s website and official status page. We’ll help you work through that check on iPhone or Android.

Check Coinbase mobile status before resetting the app

Open Coinbase Status in your browser. Find the mobile service and the feature you were using, then read any relevant incident or maintenance notice and its latest update time. Check the website component separately if you also tried signing in there.

This guide does not display live outage data or claim that Coinbase is currently down. Coinbase’s outage guidance explains that interruptions can affect sign-in, displayed balances and payment or trading functions. A loading screen alone doesn’t identify which part is failing.

Crypto Dispensers offers crypto services and publishes this guide for education. We can’t access Coinbase accounts or resolve its outages. This article focuses on the Coinbase mobile app; our general Coinbase issues guide covers restrictions, payments and transfers in more detail.

Compare the app with the official website

Type coinbase.com directly into a browser you trust. Observe whether the site loads and whether your usual sign-in can reach the account. Compare that result with the app without placing a trade or transferring funds as a test.

This matrix is our way of organizing observations. It cannot prove the cause or confirm your account’s status. Coinbase’s device guide recommends trying its website through a mobile browser when the app has problems.

Make one change at a time

Note whether the app launches, whether sign-in finishes and whether the intended screen loads. Try a stable connection; if appropriate, compare your own Wi-Fi with mobile data before beginning a new confirmation flow. Avoid sharing credentials on someone else’s device.

Once device confirmation has started, follow Coinbase’s requirement to complete it using the same device, network and location. See the device-confirmation instructions before changing sessions again.

If the Coinbase app freezes or crashes on iPhone

  1. Close and reopen the unresponsive app. Check whether it reaches the same loading screen or closes again.
  2. Restart the iPhone. Open the app again and note whether the symptom changes.
  3. Check the App Store for an official update. If the app is current, check whether iOS needs an update that your device supports.
  4. Try the website in a browser. Record the difference without repeating a purchase or send.

These steps follow Apple’s guidance for apps that stop responding or won’t open and Coinbase’s device guide. Apple puts deleting and downloading the app later in the process and warns that locally stored app data may be lost. Complete the recovery checks below before taking that step.

If the Coinbase app keeps loading or closes on Android

  1. Restart and check for updates. Update the app through Google Play and check for a supported Android update.
  2. Force stop an unresponsive app, then reopen it. Android’s settings vary by manufacturer; use the app settings for Coinbase on your device.
  3. Consider the app cache. Clearing cached files differs from clearing storage or all app data. Read the exact control before choosing it.
  4. Compare with the official website. Keep the result alongside the app version and error.

See Google’s installed-app troubleshooting guide. Its storage guidance explains that clearing storage removes app data. Use the checks below before clearing data or uninstalling. Avoid downloading a replacement installer from a support message or an unofficial site.

Check recovery access before clearing data or reinstalling

Confirm which app you’re using and whether you can sign in again. Before removing local data, check access to the account’s email and verification method. If you also use a self-custody wallet, keep its recovery information securely backed up before a reset that could affect it.

Coinbase’s device guide specifically calls out self-custody recovery backups before troubleshooting. Keep any recovery phrase or private key off support messages and public posts. Our Coinbase account and wallet comparison explains why these recovery responsibilities differ.

Reinstalling can change the app’s local state. It doesn’t establish that a pending order was cancelled, a hold ended or an account restriction cleared. Recheck those records after access returns, using our Coinbase issues guide where needed.

If the app opens but device confirmation or sign-in loops

Write down the exact prompt. A request to confirm a device and a request for a two-step code are separate checks. Follow the help link for the prompt you actually see.

For device confirmation, Coinbase says to begin and finish on the same device, Wi-Fi network and location. Use the latest confirmation email. If an email preview or in-app browser loops, follow its full-browser confirmation instructions and the directions for that flow.

If the problem is a missing email address, password or verification method, use the sign-in section of our broader guide and its official recovery links. We haven’t assumed that a specific recovery time or app reset will resolve your account.

Save the app-versus-website result for support

A short record helps support distinguish an app crash from a session or service problem. You can copy this outline and fill it in privately:

Device and software: [Phone model, iOS/Android version, Coinbase app version]

App result: [Won’t launch, closes after opening, keeps loading, or exact message]

Website result: [Loads or fails; sign-in result if checked]

Status check: [Relevant component, incident and update time]

Observed at: [Date, time and time zone]

Changes tried: [One change and result at a time]

Related transaction: [Existing order or transfer reference, if the error followed a submission]

Use Coinbase’s official contact page for its current support options. Share relevant screenshots only through a verified channel, with unrelated account or personal details removed.

Coinbase’s phishing warnings cover requests for passwords, verification codes, recovery phrases, remote access or moving crypto for a repair. Those requests are reasons to stop and verify who you’re dealing with.

Common questions about the Coinbase app

Is the Coinbase app down right now?

Check Coinbase Status for the mobile component and the feature you’re using. This article doesn’t show a live status feed or diagnose your account.

Why does Coinbase work on the website but not in the app?

The difference can help you focus on the app, device or mobile session. It doesn’t prove a single cause. Check mobile status and use the platform-specific steps above.

Should I clear the cache or delete the app first?

Start with status, closing and reopening, restarting and updates. Read your device’s cache/data controls carefully and confirm recovery access before a reset that removes local data.

Can I use the website while the app is unavailable?

If the official website and your account are available, it may let you review account activity. Existing restrictions and holds still apply. Check for an earlier pending action before placing another order.

Will reopening the app repeat my purchase?

Reopening is a navigation step. Before tapping a purchase or send action again, check activity for a matching existing transaction or contact official support if you can’t establish its status.

What should I do if the app still fails after an incident is resolved?

Record the latest symptom, app version and website result. Complete the relevant device checks and contact Coinbase with that evidence if the problem continues. An incident-resolution notice doesn’t establish that every device or account issue has cleared.
