Selling Bitcoin / From BTC to your bank

Start with the quick answer ↓To sell Bitcoin on Cash App, open its Bitcoin area, choose Sell, enter the amount and review the sale before confirming. Cash App’s Bitcoin guide says sale proceeds are added to your Cash App balance. That is different from money arriving in an external bank account.
If your goal is a bank payout, plan both steps: the BTC sale and the cash transfer. Check the quote and any sale charge first, then the transfer fee, linked destination and expected arrival. A completed sale does not prove the bank transfer has completed.
Cash App’s official Bitcoin overview describes selling from the Bitcoin tab. Treat the app’s final review screen as the transaction-specific record; a general article cannot see your balance, limits or verification status.
If the amount is unavailable, pause and read the actual message. A pending deposit, account review or other restriction may need resolution before you can proceed. Use help inside the official app for your account rather than sending funds to someone claiming they can unlock it.
If your Bitcoin is still in another wallet, this is not yet a sale of that balance in Cash App. First verify the receiving asset, network, deposit instructions and account eligibility. Sending BTC to an account and selling it there are separate actions, with separate costs and timing.
Cash App’s published Bitcoin fee page lists market buy/sell tiers based on transaction size. At our review, the displayed rates were 2.0% for $1–$499, 1.5% for $500–$999, 0.9% for $1,000–$1,999 and 0% for $2,000 or more. It also says a spread can be included in the conversion rate. Your current confirmation screen controls.
Do not apply a promotion for recurring purchases to a Bitcoin sale. Likewise, a 0% line in a transaction-fee table does not by itself establish that every possible cost of selling and moving the dollars is zero.
Use the net proceeds shown in the app instead of reconstructing a quote from a chart price. If you are comparing services, use the same BTC quantity and compare dollars arriving at the same type of bank destination. That keeps a sale fee from being mistaken for the entire payout cost.
After the sale, use the cash balance’s transfer or cash-out function and verify the linked bank or eligible debit card. Cash App’s transfer-speed guide distinguishes Standard and Instant transfers. Standard transfers are free and usually take 1–3 business days. Instant transfers typically arrive immediately to a linked debit card and carry a fee shown before confirmation.
| Stage | What changes | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Sell BTC | Bitcoin is exchanged for a cash balance. | BTC sold, conversion rate, sale fee and net cash. |
| Request cash transfer | Cash is sent toward a linked destination. | Destination, transfer fee and expected arrival date. |
| Bank receives funds | The external account reflects the deposit. | Posted amount and bank transaction record. |
On a small screen, swipe the table to see every column.
“Usually” and “typically” are estimates, not a promise for every transfer. Banking days, eligibility and account checks can affect the outcome. If the expected arrival date passes, keep the transfer receipt and use the official support process. The transfer-speed guide explains how to find a transaction reference in the Activity record.
Do not sell again just because a bank transfer is pending. First identify whether the unresolved step is the sale, the transfer request or the bank posting. Duplicate actions can create a different outcome from the one you intended.
Save the BTC quantity sold, sale date and time, gross proceeds, charges, net proceeds and bank-transfer receipt. Retain the original purchase or acquisition records too. A bank statement alone may not explain the cost basis of the Bitcoin you sold.
For U.S. taxpayers, the IRS digital-asset FAQ explains that selling digital assets can produce a capital gain or loss when held as capital assets. The calculation depends on adjusted basis and the amount realized, including applicable transaction-cost treatment. Use your records and qualified tax help for your circumstances; the total bank deposit is not automatically your taxable profit.
If you are comparing another payout option, our sell-crypto service page explains supported crypto sales for USD bank payouts. Check the asset, network, minimums, verification, net quote and payout timing before transferring funds. Crypto Dispensers does not operate Cash App and cannot remove a restriction on a Cash App account.
Our ways-to-sell-Bitcoin guide compares payout choices. If your goal is to exchange one crypto asset for another rather than receive dollars, use the crypto swap service page to review that separate process. A swap is not a USD bank payout.

No. The sale creates a cash balance in Cash App. A separate cash transfer is needed if you want the proceeds in an external bank account.
You can enter a sale amount instead of treating the whole balance as one indivisible coin, subject to the amounts and restrictions available in your account. Review the exact BTC quantity before confirming.
A displayed market value can differ from the sale quote. Sale fees, the quoted conversion rate and a separate transfer charge can affect net proceeds. Compare the receipts for each step.
Cash App says Standard transfers usually arrive in 1–3 business days. Instant transfers typically arrive immediately to an eligible linked debit card and have a fee. Check the estimate and conditions shown for your transfer.
Yes. Keep acquisition and sale records, fees and dates. Tax reporting can still apply when an asset is sold at a loss; the relevant rules depend on your circumstances.
